I went down to London on Friday, getting into London around tea time so
I headed over to the Excel Centre to pick my number which was less stressful
and not busy at all on the tube unlike on a Saturday morning. Getting back to
my hostel I choose to have a pizza for tea and a nice rest. I then got a call
from one my running friend asking me if I wanted to go to London Zoo still in
bed I got there an hour late but I had a good day and then we went in Camden
Town where it is a different world down there very busy. I then went with my
running friend and had some tea or I should say another pizza and then got ready
for the big day and then bed. I couldn’t get to sleep. I got up on the Sunday
morning had some breakfast and went with another runner we set off at 8.20am. The
tube was very quiet and had missed the big crowd until we hit DLR to the start.
I got to the start, I had 40 min spare so I got my bag on the lorry one less
thing to worry about now to join the queue for the toilet I then had 2 bottles
of water and some chocolate before I started. I was up near back but before we
could start we had a 30 seconds silence for what happened in Boston the weekend
before. I started off at 11 min pace and tried not to go to fast at the start
and just run the marathon and get around 5hr I got to around 13 miles and felt
okay I just thought OMG the next 13
miles are going to be hard because I hadn’t done any long pass 12 miles so
started to eat my jelly babies at 13 miles up until the finish I then got to 15
miles and my legs start to ache and had to stretch my legs every few miles and
then got to 18 miles my back started to hurt so I knew this was going to be
hard I then got to 20 miles and hit the wall and had to walk half miles and run
half miles for the next 3 miles until 23 half miles where I started to run
again just thought I keep running and get the marathon finished. The atmosphere
was amazing in London on Sunday and the encouragement was amazing as well and
place they were 5 deep it was warm but not too hot.
